The Milners in Capetown

After both completing their studies at the Bible Institute, Kalk Bay, Brian & Lorraine joined Africa Evangelical Fellowship in 1974.  They ministered for 11 years in the Christian Ministry to Miners. Then they had a short time in Child Evangelism Fellowship and went on to minister in Scripture Union for 13 years. After that they returned to AEF at the time that it merged with SIM. They served in the SIM (Serving in Mission) sending office for 6 years and then God called them to start a media ministry, with SIM Ethnic Focus, producing DVD media for outreach and teaching purposes. They have produced media for adults, adolescents and older children up to now. Their next project which they are developing is outreach and teaching for young children. They plan to use puppets telling the Gospel lessons. They will be filming an accomplished puppeteer and children’s worker.

In January the Milner’s started filming a new series of DVD’S which require children to answer questions before the film proceeds. Although this interactive approach required that additional puppets be made, it has proven to be a very effective learning tool. The DVD’s for older children which also has advanced teaching for new young Christians is complete. They intend adding to this effectiveness in the future by using someone with a good, clear speaking voice . In May Brian gave a DVD presentation to SIM missionaries in the hopes that those who work with children will use the material. They are encouraged that orders for the material have been received from various parts of the country.

On the home front life has been challenging for the Milner’s. On 7th April they commemorated the first anniversary of their daughter Charmaine’s death to cancer. It would also have been her birthday on the 22nd of the month. They are, however, grateful that her estate is in the final stages of being wound up. Sponsorship made it possible for Brian and Lorraine to visit their son, Dale and his family over Easter.

The Milner’s have again thanked HBC for financial support. Our care means a lot to them as they now have medical issues: Brian has a partial heart blockage and Lorraine has to watch her sugar levels. They are both on special diets and face regular tests and medical examinations.

• Pray that Sunday school teachers, children’s church leaders and Bible Clubs will use the DVD’s as a tool to teach the Gospel and basic biblical principles to their classes.

• Pray that the SIM missionaries would use the DVD’s in their outreach to children.

• Pray for Brian and Lorraine regarding their health problems.
